ABOUT chef jason

Over the past decade, Jason Roehm has served as a cooking instructor, personal chef and private event caterer. He is the guest instructor at the Center for a Healthy Lifestyle. With a Master’s degree in Education, he has more than 10 years of teaching experience, working with adults, teens and kids alike.

His personal passion for cooking stems from traveling around the world…diving for rock lobster in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, savoring Moules-Frites in Monte Carlo, gnocchi in Florence, bangers & mash in Londonand tapas in Barcelona. He longs to return to Vienna, Austria for some schnitzel, where he played professional football for one season.

He enjoys international cooking, lobster diving in La Jolla, crabbing for Dungeness in his home state of Oregon and day fishing trips in San Diego. You can frequently see him at various farmers markets around Carlsbad, Encinitas and Solana Beach looking for fresh ingredients. Jason lives in San Eliho Hills with his wife and 12-year-old daughter.

A percentage of proceeds from each class goes directly to the Boys and Girls Club's Center for a Healthy Lifestyle to support the farm to table cooking classes for underprivileged youth.

Chef Jason is a very talented goofball. When not quoting Ghostbusters, talking about his acting career, or name-dropping Dokken, he makes some very delicious food (with his wife’s help, of course!)
— Karen N., Escondido, CA
A big thanks to Trish, Andy, Chef Jason, Kristi, sous chef Monica, the folks from Ironsmith, Five Star Tours, Temecula Olive Oil Company,, Prager Brothers, and Gourmet Mediterranean. You all made this day a superb way to spend a Sunday with new and old Yelp friends, enjoying great food, and stimulating conversation.
— Debbie S. Vista, CA

“The message delivered by Chef Jason is spot on. Know what you’re eating, get as much as you can from the garden or local farm, and it’s not THAT difficult to make food chef-worthy food.”
— Vin T, Carlsbad

I think the menu was awesome, and I enjoyed learning how to correctly steam oysters. The whole experience was fun and interactive and delightful. I raved about it to my husband and mom. He was bummed I didn’t bring anything home and was most interested in how to steam oysters with beer. I know he would have enjoyed the experience too.
— Joanna, Carlsbad

We’ve taken a few cooking classes together before but this was definitely more than that. The Foodventure was not only a fun class, but a whole afternoon of wine tasting, walking, exploring the market. I also got a few good tips on what to look for when buying produce.
— Laura P., San Diego

You are so kind to have spent the time composing each recipe. I am so appreciative! Thanks you so much for all of your time and effort. Everyone LOVED your wood-fire oven pizzas at our gathering!!!

Amazing event. What a treat to have the ability to see the Aquafarm and have a tour. I feel like I learned so much about mussels and oysters! To top it off with delicious tastes and cooking lessons with Jason, was amazing. I’m super excited about looking into the experiences that Jason provides as I think that would be such a fun way to entertain guests from out of town or even have a party! The event was amazing, The food was delicious. The company was awesome. Just an overall spectacular Friday afternoon.
— Jennifer S., Escondido, CA

While the food was great at this event, what really stood out to me today was the passion. Jason infused his personality and sense of humor into the entire day and each and every vendor was a pleasure to meet and have the opportunity to get to experience their products. Basically, best. day. ever.
— Julia, W. Carlsbad

A 5-Star Experience! I learned a number of things. Who thought you could make avocado into fries. I came back to the office and no one wanted to believe me until I explained step by step how you did it.
— Linda N., Encinitas

What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday!! The cooking began with live crabs, clams & mussels. We baked our own bread, made two types of cheese & enjoyed wine. Each of us was invited to help prepare some aspect of the meal and learned a new technique or trick as we went. In the end, we learned a little, laughed a lot and created a spectacular meal that we enjoyed together!!

“The final product was FANTASTIC. Maybe I don’t eat eggplant chicken parm often but this was THE BEST version I’ve ever had. The chicken breast tasted succulent, moist, tender and so incredibly flavorful smothered with the homemade red sauce we made earlier...”
